If you really struggle while falling asleep during the night then you are not alone and the chances are you are sleep deprived.

You can understand the level of your tiredness through this test. Most of us suffer from poor sleep along with anxiety. Taking your work home and the new technology is also associated with this problem.

If you are unable to sleep properly you may have physical problems as well and there can be a risk of serious medical conditions like diabetes, obesity and heart disease.

To understand whether you are getting proper sleep you need to have a spoon and a metal tray. A professor from the University of Chicago has developed a Sleep Onset Latency Test, and this test is based on solid science.

While taking the test you simply need to lie down in a quiet darkened room in an early afternoon. Just clutch the spoon that you are holding at the edge of the bed. Put the metal tray on the floor close to your bed. Please check the time before closing your eyes. Check whether you feel sleepy and how soon after you lie down.

This concept is based on the fact that once you drift off the spoon will drop down onto the metal plate making a loud bang and this bang will wake you up.

Now your work is to check the time you took to fall asleep. The Professor reveals that a person who takes five minutes to fall asleep is sleep deprived since so many days. If someone takes ten minutes than that person is struggling to get good night sleep. A fifteen-minute mark is fine.

In case the spoon does not fall onto the metal tray you can simply put an alarm for fifteen minutes and check whether you feel like sleeping within these fifteen minutes. If yes then you do not suffer from sleep disorders.
