Battle Of The Berries: DTEK 60 vs Priv vs DTEK 50, Which Phone Should You Buy?
Blackberry is known for its security, and it comes as no surprise that BlackBerry wanted to bite at the Android market with its promise of impeccable security and robust hardware. The line has been set and three phones have come out of the conveyor belt: the DTEK 60, the Priv and the DTEK 50. But how will you know which phone to buy?
Display
People looking for a bigger display would likely choose the DTEK 60, as it has the biggest display of the three of them. It sports a 5.5-inch QHD screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels which puts the pixel density at 534 ppi. The Priv comes with a 5.4-inch dual curve QHD display having the same resolution as the DTEK 60.
The DTEK 50 doesn't fall short of providing an impeccable display as well. It has a 5.2-inch FHD display with a somewhat lower resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The pixel density figures for the Priv and DTEK 50 are 540 and 424 respectively. If you want greater style, you can select the BlackBerry Priv as it comes with a curved screen.
Processor And RAM
The Priv is not all flair. It packs a decent punch in the form of a hexa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, which is a little old compared to 2016 flagships. The processor is clocked at 1.4 Ghz and 1.8 Ghz respectively.
The DTEK 60 is more modern and up to date with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU clocked at 2.15 GHz. The processor is a quad-core variant whereas the DTEK 50 has a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor.
As per processor speeds and usability go, users can select a processor according to the tasks they perform. Heavy gaming and video watching along with multitasking need the top model with the Snapdragon 820.
As for RAM, the DTEK 60 provides 4GB of memory with the other two phones giving 3 GBs each. More RAM means more multitasking at blazing fast speeds.
Storage
The top models are the Priv and the DTEK 60 and therefore come with a decent 32GB onboard storage, while the DTEK 50 provides only 16GBs of storage. All three smartphones however, provide expanded storage via a microSD card to a mind-boggling 2 Terabytes!
Camera
The DTEK 60 has a fast 21-megapixel primary shooter coupled with an 8MP front-facing camera. The Priv has a different combination of 18MP primary camera and 2MP secondary camera. Photography lovers would love the DTEK 60 over the Priv and the DTEK 50 which provides 13MP camera. The Priv also provides OIS and Schneider Kreuznach optics which might make it a better deal, if the front facing camera is overlooked.
Battery and Software
The Priv comes with a now-standard non-removable battery of a capacity of 3,410 mAh and surprisingly it supports wireless charging but only in the US. The DTEK 50 and Priv both support Quick Charge 2.0, compared to the DTEK 60's Quick Charge 3.0. As a result, the Priv gets charged up to 60% in half an hour. Compared to this the DTEK 50 takes 51 minutes to get charged up to 50%. Not surprisingly, the DTEK 60 only takes 30 minutes to charge itself to 80%.
The DTEK 60 gives the best battery usage with 26 hours of talk time, compared to 24 hours and 17 hours for the Priv and DTEK 50 on 3G cellular network.
As for software, all the phones run on Android Marshmallow. The DTEK 60 looks to be the first in line to get an official Android Nougat update.
Price
The asking price of the DTEK 60 is more than the other two and costs $499. It looks costly but is very reasonable considering the power it packs. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor like the other two, and would be popular with people who want an extra security feature. Power users would love this smartphone through and through as it does day to day tasks without any hiccups.
The Priv which was previously aggressively priced, is now priced at $425. The DTEK 50 looks to occupy the pockets of low-end users and is priced at $299.
