How To Get Rid Of RansomWare: No More Ransom Campaign Aims To Set You Free

Almost a dozen of countries have banded together to help internet users getting rid of rising scourge of ransomware. It would be a joint operation between industry and law enforcements.

This ransomware is a notorious type of malware which is capable of locking the entire computer system at the click of the mouse.

Europol the Dutch national Police, Intel Security, and Kaspersky Lab together launched a project in July called Dubbed No More Ransom. This project touted an online portal offering advice, a reporting service, and free description tools.

It is believed that 13 countries are now involved in the law enforcement.

Ransom ware does not require a sophisticated hacker to deploy it. Hence its ease of use is increasingly becoming lucrative for cyber criminals.

Ransom ware has the capacity to hijack control of pictures, videos, text documents including messages. It typically shows the lock screen on the user's computer. The victim is then directed to pay fees in bit coins and this crypto currency is very difficult to trace.

An innovative tool named 'Crypto Sherriff' helps the infected user to decrypt the versions of Chimera, WildFire, Teslacrypt, CoinVault, and Rakhni. The users are also allowed to upload their encrypted files through this tool and these can be placed alongside the ransom notice they received to identify the virus. A recently uploaded decryptor named Rannoh can help patch at least seven ransom ware strains.

This project strictly warns the users not to pay any criminal who successfully infects the user's system. Paying money to cybercriminals simply means that ransom ware still works and there is no guarantee of getting the encryption key which is essential.

Operational information sharing will improve automatically if more law enforcement agencies get on board and ransom ware would be fought more effectively.
