In the nineties, the Arcades began to die because the home entertainment system became cheaper and more powerful. Modern technology is on its way to make these venues popular once again. It will happen because of virtual reality.

HTC is planning to introduce VR arcade games to a large number of markets across the world. Viverport Arcade program of the Taiwan-based company will help arcade operators in purchasing commercial licenses for commercial titles.

There is an option for VR operators while adding their products to the Viveport store. After this, the arcade operators purchase a certain amount of minutes for these games. So far there are 120 titles and these are sold to the customers for use in the Vive machines. HTC splits the money amongst the developers once the purchased minutes are spent.

Though Viveport will first arrive in China and Taiwan but it is rolling out to other locations like America and Europe by the end of 2017.

HTC owns its own VR theme park, Viveland in Taipei where visitors pay a meager amount of $5 and $12 for vive experiences. Last year's partnership deal will allow the company to bring its headsets to China's internet café market.

It seems that Virtual Reality and arcades are made for each other. People have the issues of PC powered headsets as they are too expensive and they also lose interest while spending longer time on their PC's. The best way to monetize on the technology is to pay just $5-$10 for 30 minutes in a VR game.

Modal VR a newly formed company plans to bring its wireless virtual reality program to arcades. Another company named Saga also has the potential for VR arcades. This company is planning to bring its Zero Latency's immersive Zombie shooters to its venues in Japan.
