Battle Of The Mid-Range Phones: Asus Zenfone 3 Laser vs Samsung Galaxy J7
Samsung J series lineup of phones are known for their affordability and decent hardware specs. However, the market has become saturated of late with mid-range budget smartphones coming up and selling like hot cakes. Chinese manufacturers have dominated this scene with their offerings in the form of Oppo, Xiaomi etc.
Asus as well has been stirring up the market with the release of its Zenfone 3 Laser. Asus is known for powerful specs and great design.
We compare the two phones to find out what phone would be the best for you.
Design
The Zenfone laser looks premium even though it is a mid-range smartphone, with its brushed aluminum body with rounded sides and chamfered edges. The J7 is also very pretty to behold and has a full metallic body. The Zenfone 3 Laser comes equipped with a fingerprint scanner at the back for people who want a little bit more security, while the J7 doesn't come equipped with one.
Specifications
The Asus Zenfone 3 Laser has an IPS HD display with 1920x1080 resolution. The pixel density on the Asus phone is a decent 401 ppi. The J7, on the other hand, comes with a Super AMOLED display with 720x1280 pixels having a pixel density of 267 ppi. While the pixels density is average on the J7, it copes up with a beautiful AMOLED screen with deep blacks and high contrast ratios.
For daily tasks, the Asus comes packed with a 64 bit Octa core 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset and Adreno 505. Heavy users will not have a problem as it comes with a huge 4GB of RAM, and an onboard storage of 32GB which can be further increased via a microSD.
The J7, on the other hand, has an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.6Ghz. With 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, the J7 doesn't show flair when it comes to specifications. It also gets a microSD card for increasing the onboard storage. Some variants of the J7 comes with 3GB/32GB RAM and storage options (see: Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime).
Samsung is known for its camera and the J7 comes with a 13MP camera with a 5MP camera for selfies. The Asus as well, comes with a 13MP camera, and an 8MP selfie camera. Asus's selling point in this phone is its super fast laser autofocus. Both the phones run on Android Marshmallow 6.0, with Samsung running on the TouchWiz and Asus running on the slightly faster and lighter ZenUI 3.0.
The battery of the Asus phone is a decent 3000 mAh, more than most phones of today. However the Samsung's 3300 mAh battery triumphs over the Asus phone in longevity and talk time.
Both the phones come at a mid-range price with the Asus phone being slightly priced higher than the Samsung Galaxy J7. However, the increase in price is justified as it has more RAM, better camera features as well as a fingerprint sensor.
People who want a better looking phone and more security can select the Asus Zenfone 3 Laser, and people who want an overall good phone and don't care much about security can select the J7.
