Fans will be pleased to hear that production of 12 Monkeys Season 3 production is currently going on. Syfy has renewed the series for a third season scheduled for release sometime in 2017.

This sci-fi mystery drama series revolves around James Cole played by Aaron Stanford. He is a time traveler who returns to the present from the year 2043. His mission is to prevent the release of a deadly virus that would wipe out 93.6% of humankind. The ingenious team dedicated to helping him are virologist Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) and math genius Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire).

12 Monkeys Season 2

The second season had its finale episode on July 19, 2016 on SyFy. In this episode, Cassia and Cole will be expecting a child who will be playing a crucial role in the storyline twist. Can things stay the way they are after they find out the true consequence of bringing their child into this world? Is there anything that can be done to stop the impending world doom? Despite the series continuously declining ratings, SyFy renewed the 12 Monkeys for a 10-episode third season in 2017. No exact date has been announced yet as per premieredate.tv.

Meanwhile, blastr got to sit down with 12 Monkeys showrunner Terry Matalas to tell viewers about the latest scoop and what can be expected when the show returns. It turns out they'll be adding Back to the Future alum Christopher Lloyd as the cult leader Zalmon Shaw. He'll be recruiting new members into the Army of the 12 Monkeys.

Matalas was asked about the decision to cast Lloyd, whose fans best remember him from Back to the Future. He is asked to compare that character against the character type of the leader of the Army of the 12 Monkeys.

Matalas said that casting Lloyd was never a problem due to the length and breadth of the actor's resume because he's obviously run the table. He may be best remember as Doc Brown. But he's practically done everything, from drama, comedy, heroes, villains, and a hundred shades in between. But the common denominator has always been charisma. It doesn't matter whether it's menacing or inviting because the energy in his performance pulls his audience to him.

Matalas is also doing his directorial debut with the season premiere and it's been an amazing experience from writing to directing. He's grateful to the studio and network to have been so supportive of the idea. He also praised their tremendous crew whom he describes as a 'surplus of visionaries'. They are the ones who make this happen every single day. He said he's blessed for working and learning from these tremendously talented people.
