The much-awaited political thriller "Homeland" season 6 now has a definite air date - Jan. 15, 2017 - as viewers eagerly await for updates on the Showtime series. 

A recently released teaser trailer of the show hinted that events in the latest season will take place in New York, a development that will surely create anticipation among fans. 

The latest footage provided a glimpse of the lives of the show's main protagonists, with the action shifting from Europe to the Big Apple, according to E! News. 

The clip also sets the tone of the latest season, giving the series' followers an "ominous hint" of a threat confronting Carrie (Claire Danes): her enemy is not from the outside, but somebody from within the organization. 

With the disclosure of "Homeland" season 6's air date, fans have now trained their sights on series updates which will give flesh to the above storyline. 

"I don't think you understand how vulnerable you are," a pensive F. Murray Abraham's Dar Adal cautions Carrie in a clip toward the end of the trailer. 

"I don't think you do," she answers back.

"Homeland" showrunner Alex Ganza described the sophomore season of the series as "an interesting time" and a "transition and transfer of power," drawing parallels between events in the show and the upcoming US presidential elections.

Ganza hopes to tell an interesting story within 72 days, regardless of whether the next elected president is a male or a female.

After returning to the US, she now works for a foundation in New York, which is focused on providing assistance to Muslims who are residing in the country.
