Android 7.0 Nougat Update Confirmed For OnePlus 3
Google recently rolled out the Nougat update for Android devices, and since then a lot of devices not manufactured by Google or having the Nexus branding has got the updates. Now, OnePlus are next in line.
The startup's Head of Software, Brian Yoon, verified that there would be a community build for the Nougat, and it would be available for the OnePlus 3 in November.
The company also seems interested in pushing out OTA updates for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T, after the build has been stabilized. This means that people who were concerned about the phone's powerful hardware but not enough software support, can heave a sigh of relief.
Last year's OnePlus flagship, the OnePlus 2, would also be getting the Nougat update. However, a definite timeframe for rolling out the update hasn't yet been established. The company brought the Nougat update after a much needed and much dramatized internal restructuring. OnePlus leadership merged teams working on OxygenOS and HydrogenOS, which are the phone software for the rest of the world, and China, respectively.
This move resulted in the OnePlus 3 getting an update confirmed, as OnePlus is infamous for not providing timely updates and be very late with it. Users this time around were vocal about this, and this got the sight of OnePlus. By getting teams together the company hopes things will move faster and in tune with each other making things competitive in-house.
OnePlus has demonstrated how well it can rally resources, as the word for its update takes place only days after other much bigger companies announced their own. LG was the first company to push an Android Nougat powered phone in the market, and then the update was injected into the flagship G5 as well.
Samsung wasn't far behind. A company that is yet infamous for releasing Android updates very late, made the update available to the 2016 flagship S7 and S7 Edge through its Galaxy beta program right after LG released its own.
Although the Nougat is still fresh, Google devices are running on Android 7.1, which is more like a final build of the Nougat, and comes with lots of bug fixes and performance improvements. Companies are waiting to get their hands on the 7.1 as soon as they release the Nougat update for phones.
