Apple is always known for its thirst to explore new technologies in its devices. The Cupertino-based tech giant is rumored to be working on expanding its range of wearable devices next to the Apple Watch, an eye gear much like the Google Glass that would bring augmented reality display to work on a standard pair of glasses, says reports from the Bloomberg News.

The report also states that Apple is still exploring the possibilities of materializing the smart glasses into the finished product to launch in the market. It is expected that this new innovation of the company will hit the market as early as 2018 or longer.

AR- Augmented Reality imposes digital images upon the real world, while virtual reality immerses the user into a digital experience via a headset. In the past few months, Apple has been recruiting AR specialists and bringing all their minds to work secretively on a new consumer product.

CEO Tim Cook has always acknowledged that AR has more potential than virtual reality and indirectly hinting on his Company's plans to enter the space. However, Apple has been hiring both VR and AR experts till September leaving fans to think that the company is planning on exploring both the technologies.

Bloomberg also reported that Apple is already connected with its potential suppliers for components like near-eye displays. It also has the expertise of companies working on AR software, 3D mapping, and computer vision for over three years. Companies like PrimeSense, Metaio, and Flyby working with Apple on achieving its goal to develop a pair of glasses that would connect to an iPhone wirelessly and display information on the user's field of vision.

With VR ruling the current market with devices Daydream View headsets, Oculus VR and Samsung VR to connect to flagship smartphones, it is still unclear on how Apple is going to pitch its new product to the customers.

Recently Apple's CEO Tim Cook expressed "There are some really hard technology challenges there, but it will happen in a big way, and we will wonder when it does, how we ever lived without it" when asked about AR.
