The legendary McLaren F1 takes new shape with a special three-seat layout. McLaren F1 confirmed its plans on a three-seater super car at the 2016 LA Autoshow. According to McLaren the car is billed as "hyper GT" and is "designed for long journeys but with the high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren."

Quoting McLaren the car will be "most exquisitely crafted and luxurious road-going McLaren to date". The British car manufacturers also said that similar to McLaren F1, the "hyper GT" will also roll out with 106 examples, which will be sold out exclusively to preferred customers.

BP23-three seater McLaren

The codename BP23, standing for Bespoke Project 2, will be one of the most powerful McLaren sporting a hybrid powertrain. The numerical 3 in the codename denotes that the McLaren will be a three-seater. Similar to the McLaren F1, and all other current McLaren cars, BP23 will also feature "dihedral" doors. However, the doors will feature roof-mounted air scoop.

McLaren to rollout cars to preferred customers

The design of the car is yet to be revealed and it is said that the car will be customized according to the preferences of the 106 customers with a range of color tint options as well. However, the released "hyper GT" sketch shows a central driving position and a seat set slightly behind on either side, allowing room for 3 people.

Designed for long journeys and not racing

Designed to suit long journeys the car is suggested that it would not outperform the ultra-high tech and pure-bred P1 hyper car meant for racing. The car will be a petrol-electric hybrid. McLaren also added that the car will offer "high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren".

Expected Specs

The expected hybrid drivetrain is expected to feature McLaren's twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine coupled to an electric motor that will draw energy from a lithium-ion battery package, in a similar layout to that of McLaren's P1 hyper car. The car is expected to exceed the 496kW of the 675LT which is comparatively lesser than the P1 hyper car.

Pricing and Date of Launch

McLaren has been tightlipped about the pricing of BP23, although rumors suggest it will cost close to $2.5 million excluding the personalization measures. It is planned to hit the big launch by 2022.
