Apple Does Mass AppStore Clean-Up Removing 47,300 Outdated And Unbothered iOS Apps

It is a routine that Apple practices for years now. Apple cleans its app store every year removing problematic and unbothered apps. This year Apple has managed to clean App Store removing around 47,300 outdated and unbothered iOS apps in October alone.

Apple announced in September that they are getting the App Store rid of all the old and abandoned apps in iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. The company has stayed true to its words and has done it already by the end of October.

Apple's October AppStore Clean-up

The App Store had about 47,300 abandoned by not being updated in a long time or apps that are not compatible with its new devices or had been problematic by not meeting the required guidelines. This helps users from the effects of downloading outdated apps which either do not work or keep crashing.

According to the data from a research firm Sensor Tower, said that Apple gets rid of outdated apps from the App Store time to time and it is now doing so three to four times more than average, between January and September. The removal of October jumped to a hefty 238 percent.

Category-wise Reports

The data also suggested that most of the apps that Apple 28 percent of the apps that were deleted constituted games, the biggest category in the list of deletions. According to Mac Rumors, the Entertainment and Books category constituted 9 percent of the clean-up, while Education and Lifestyle apps accounted for 7 percent and 6 percent of the removed apps, respectively. The clean-up in October alone accounted for more than 3 percent of Apple's the monthly app removal average.

Apple notified Developers on the App Removal

Developers across the world were notified of the upcoming clean-up and were asked to make their updates or newer versions of their apps before Sep. 7, 2016. However, Apple has also been considerate and extended the deadline to give more time for developers.

A tough task indeed!

The App Store houses over two million apps. Also, over 100,000 new apps are submitted every week to the App store. It is certainly not an easy job to remove the outdated Apps. However, looks like Apple has mastered the art. The company also deals with the new iMessage app store available from the iOS 10 update. Kudos to Apple on the commendable clean-up job!
