Despite the long hard battle, Selena Gomez showed up at the American Music Awards and stole the show with not only her victory but also her speech.

The pop star turned actress made her first public appearance, after a self-imposed two and a half months break on Sunday, according to E! Online.

The "Revival" singer moved many spectators to tears with her acceptance speech for the best female pop star/artist at the American Music Awards on Sunday. Gomez also addressed her mental health and the conditions she went through during the self-imposed break from publicity.

She mentioned that despite having everything, she was broken inside and had to stop. However, she kept herself altogether to not let everyone down, but she let herself down in the process.

"If you are broken you do not have to stay broken," she added after thanking her fans, reported CNN. "If that's anything whether you respect me or not that's one thing you should know about me. I care about people."

After Gomez's speech, cameras captured many celebrities moved with her. One of them was Lady Gaga, who was visibly moved. The singer also added a photo on her Twitter account with Gomez stating that she got to hang out with the biggest pop star of the night.

Notably, Gomez announced in August that she was taking time off to focus on Lupus diagnosis and her health.  She also mentioned, at the time, that she had discovered that panic attacks, stress, depression, and anxiety were side effects of her health condition.

Meanwhile, it is believed that fans were appreciative of her appearance and her candid speech.  However, considering the situation, Selena believed that her fans had the right to know the struggle she had to go through from her, and not through any print or online media. It seems that Gomez was right on that count, despite her emotional status.
