Travel Down Memory Lane
Even though it enjoyed a strong and steady flow of loyal viewers, Gilmore Girls never really raked in massive ratings compared to its counterparts. Both when it initially aired on WB network and for one season at CW. From 2000-2007, the show had an average of almost 5 million viewers every week as per Vulture. This is relatively modest compared to Friends, which at that time was generating 25 million viewers per episode. But even if Gilmore was never a colossal competitor, it was a big hit among women under the age of 35, which was exactly the show's demographic target. Of course, it remains to be seen the reception it will get 9 years after its last episode.
For those who are not familiar with the story, this is set in a Connecticut town filled with highly diverse individuals. It's a drama about family and friendship and centers around the life of Lorelai Gilmore and daughter Rory. Lorelai owns and manages the Dragonfly Inn, their town's bed-and-breakfast. Together with best friend/chef Sookie, they put up with weekly dinners with her eccentric and wealthy parents Emily and Richard Gilmore. Rory attends Yale University after finishing high school but returns to Stars Hollow regularly for home visits.
