Illinois’ Pregnancy Care Center and Doctors Stand-up Against In Promoting Abortion

Just a few days after the Republican Governor Bruce Rauner signed Senate Bill 1564, a law which requires medical professionals to refer patients for abortions, Bowman along with several attorneys at the ADF filed a lawsuit in August.

Bowman stated that, "If this law is allowed to remain on the books, doctors and medical staff, who take an oath to ‘do no harm,' they will be forced into violating that oath. The recently signed law requires doctors to be proactive in giving customers access to establishments that profit from killing innocent children, Life News reported.

The newly implemented law also coerces speech and action that would breach the oaths of health professionals. First of all, the law asserts that these medical professionals must inform pregnant women about the "benefits" of abortion. And that abortion is a "treatment option" that cures pregnancy. Lastly, the law enforces these pro-life medical professionals to recommend the names of doctors who offer abortion to pregnant women.

The lawsuit protects the rights of pro-life health professionals and pregnancy care centers under the Illinois Constitution for their freedom of conscience and of speech. Noel Sterett, an attorney from Mauck and Baker LLC states, that no law or state has the power to coerce doctors and pregnancy centers in their good conscience to refer the names or contacts of abortionists. This is by far the most unethical, illicit and unethical law ever promulgated, Alliance Defending Freedom reported.

Everyone who was present at the hearing, including the president of Heartbeat International, Jor-El Godsey refused to comply with the law, in case it would take effect. He was also encouraged of what Judge Doherty's has to say on both side of the case.
