iPhone 8 Specs, Update: Leaked Apple OLED ‘All Curved Display’ Redesign To Surpass S7 Technology; Redefines Smartphone Aesthetics [VIDEO]
The iPhone 8 is rumored to sport an 'All Curved Display' which will be made possible by adopting Samsung's OLED technology. This breakout news has been confirmed when the tech giant ordered roughly 100 million units of curved OLED displays from its rival.
It is also emphasized that only plastic curved OLED displays will be supplied by Samsung. The plastic version of OLED has been used in devices like the S7 Edge while the glass OLED is used for flat panels, Korean Herald reported.
Three designs are expected to arrive upon the launch of iPhone 8: the flagship model that sports the curved screen while the other two will be closely similar to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Daily Mail UK added. Whether the plastic OLED will be used as the sole cover or it will only serve as an inner support for an outer glass cover remains unresolved.
No foldable iPhone 8
The report also dismissed the rumor of a foldable iPhone 8. However, Apple plans to upstage the S7 Edge, the first device to use the plastic OLED for curved panels, by integrating a new sensory technology.
This upcoming feature will allow the new iPhone to respond to its user by touching any side of the unit. However, Apple will not adopt this technology without taking a deeper look to further details, Korean Herald added.
Samsung OLED, only a stepping stone
Apple will eventually cut its reliance on Samsung as its OLED supplier as it wants to take control of further leaks of its technology. Apart from that reason, the company also wants to reignite the competition between the South Korean tech giant.
Additionally, Apple's long-time LCD supplier, LG Display is reportedly working with Apple and Google in developing foldable panels for future smartphones. This venture is expected to materialize in 2018.
Apple Inc. is set to release its latest flagship iPhone 8 as its 10th anniversary offering this Autumn 2017.
