Weight Loss: Study Shows Short-Term Low-Carb Better Than Low-Fat Diet [VIDEO]

Weight loss results seem to be better and the methods are safer for people who subscribe to a low-carb diet. This is supported by a study conducted by Mayo Clinic in Arizona, USA and published in "The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association."

This weight loss treatment is proven to be more effective than the famed low-fat diets which have branched out into several known names like Atkins, Paleo, Ketogenic and South Beach, Medical News Today reported.

Physicians have found out in the previous studies that a low-carb diet comprises of a lower level of calories from carbohydrates. It measures less than 45 percent of daily calorie intake.

The development of the study has been halted by the carbohydrate stigma, which then led to the prescription of the ideal carbohydrate-restricted diet. The researchers added that the allowed carbohydrate on weight loss diet has been limited to 46 percent of daily calories, supporting the evidence.

Dr. Heather Fields, the lead researcher of the study said that the best proof to hold will be available if correspondents will follow the low-carb diet in a short-term period. This appears to be safer and associated with weight loss.

However, Dr. Fields warns that a low-carb diet still has questionable clinical significance compared to low-fat weight loss. She moved forward by encouraging people to eat real food and move away from processed types.

There are also some restrictions on the limit of the study. One example is the fact that the researcher was not able to find out which specific part sheds weight loss. This is an important detail people should know since each has the preference to lose fat or muscle, Shape wrote.
