MSI has unveiled its portable virtual reality machine - the MSI VR One - which is available in two variants, the GTX 1070 and the GTX 1060. Virtual reality is the wave of the future. Presently, however, it is either very limited or too expensive.

There have been steady efforts for mobile VR systems, but they are unable to utilize the necessary hardware for a full VR experience. Similarly, while PCs have the hardware necessary for an immersive virtual reality experience, they have their restrictions in terms of mobility.

In order to address this VR quandary, MSI has released a virtual reality machine that is both portable and powerful. The MSI VR One is a portable PC that you can strap on to your shoulders like a backpack.

MSI VR One Specs. The MSI VR One offers a portable and lightweight system that does not compromise high frame rate and superb quality. It features high-end hardware, superior cooling technology, and a 6th generation Intel Core i7 processor with a top of the line GeForce GTX 10 series graphics card.

The MSI VR one claims to be the world's thinnest (54 mm) and lightest (weighing in under 3.6 kg) backpack PC system. It is also one of the quietest machines available in the market, having only a maximum of 40dBA sound with a full load.

The VR One also features a lot of different ports for various VR peripherals: 1 mini DisplayPort, 4 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB Type-C with Thunderbolt 3, an HDMI 2.0 port, with Killer 1535 Wi-Fi, featuring Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity and a separate headphone and microphone jacks. Its battery pack can also reportedly run for a maximum of 90 minutes at full VR gaming capacity.

The new VR unit is ideally to be used with the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headsets. Without the headsets, the unit can be used as an ordinary gaming desktop.

The VR One was showcased during the 2016 Computex event in Taiwan. It is now available at $1,999 for the GTX 1060 GPU base model with 6 GB of RAM. The high-end model which features a GTX 1070 GPU and 8 GB of RAM has a price tag of $2,299.
