Google Will Challenge Apple Watch With Their New Android Wear 2.0 Smartwatches In 2017

Jeff Chang, the product manager of Google's Android Wear, recently announced that Google is now ready to introduce its two flagship smartwatches in the first quarter of 2017. The smartwatches are said to be the first to be powered by Android Wear 2.0, but the only difference is it will not be using Google or Pixel branding.

The devices will be branded with the name of the manufacturer of the device instead. Jeff Chang didn't announce the name of the manufacturer but he stated that the company had made Android Wear devices before.

The company said that once the two new devices are shipped out, the other devices that are powered by the operating system will automatically receive the update of the latest version. With the upgraded platform, it is set that it will add several features to the smartwatches including Google's voice-powered assistant, assistance for Android Pay and few apps that will not require a connected device.

Chang said in an interview with the Verge, "more manufacturers are expected to release Android-based watches throughout the year". He also added, "this is a marathon, not a sprint, this category of product is here with us to stay."

Other manufacturers seem to lose interest in launching the wearable devices. Large companies like LG, Motorola, and Huawei decided not to continue on producing the Android Wearable devices in 2016.

It was also officially announced that the name of the two devices is Angelfish and Swordfish. The Angelfish smartwatch will be the larger one, having the hardware buttons, LTE connectivity, GPS capability, and a heart rate sensor. While the Swordfish smartwatch is smaller, having only a single hardware button, no LTE, and GPS and does not have a heart sensor.

It will be a perfect collaboration for the two companies to create a smartwatch that will challenge the Apple watch. But Google's attempt to challenge Apple isn't yet sure, as users still need more information about the device that Google will be revealing soon.
