In less than a day, children can finally open their gifts hoping that one of their favorite toys will be delivered by Santa. Parents will do everything to find the must-have toys for their kids. Unfortunately, toys such as the Nintendo NES Classic and Hatchimals are always out of stock.

High demand for these toys should prompt their manufacturers to make more but why the scarcity of supply continues? Let's go back to November when the Hatchimals and NES Mini were introduced to the market and caused a selling phenomenon that had baffled many in the toy industry.

November 11 was the launch date of the NES Classic. Minutes after its release, items of the retro gaming system were literally wiped out. Boasting of 30 classic video games, the Mini NES sold like hotcakes at retailer's brick-and-mortar stores as well as online.

Amazon, Toys R Us, Best Buy and Target had occasional restocks of the beloved NES Classic but they were gone as soon as they hit the store shelves. The latest retailer to receive new shipment was Meijer. Again, the NES Mini did not last an hour.

Hatchimals is another toy that was received warmly by consumers. These interactive egg toys are made by Canadian company Spin Master. They have been flying off shelves and retailers found themselves running out of stock. Again, huge demand but low supply.

There were several announcements that new stocks of Hatchimals and NES Classic will arrive before Christmas. These new shipments were confirmed but purchases were limited to one per customer. As of this writing, pre-orders are not being accepted by most retailers.

Nintendo and Spin Master benefited from shoppers' frenzied search for the Hatchimals and NES Classic. These breakout toys mean big profits for the companies. But many are asking why Nintendo and Spin Master are not making more to satisfy more customers?

The video below takes a look at the games that's on the NES Classic and discusses the gaming system's scarcity and pricing. Share your thoughts on the article in the comment section.
