Why Ashtanga Is a Daily Practice: Miley Cyrus Vows Never to Skip Yoga 10 Days Straight Again

Miley Cyrus is an avid practitioner of ashtanga yoga. Ashtanga yoga is a daily practice which recommends a six-day practice week.

Asthanga and Mysore Yoga. The Asthanga Yoga method recommends that you practice six days a week. One popular form of ashtanga is the "mysore" yoga style.

In mysore yoga, the practitioner will follow their own breath and movement during the class and work through the yoga sequence at their own pace. Unlike other forms of yoga, asthanga yoga also has a sequence which the practitioner will finish one at a time.

Traditionally, one basic asthanga sequence can be completed in 30 mins to 1 hour depending on the practitioner. Unlike other forms of yoga, mysore is entirely dependent on the practitioner and the teacher and other students are also in class but doing their own thing.

The mysore yoga style was developed in southern India by yoga Guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. He devoted his entire life to yoga and believed that the ashtanga mysore method was the best and safest way to practice yoga.

Miley Cyrus on Yoga. Miley Cyrus has only gotten serious with her yoga practice earlier this year. She claims that she does yoga not for her body but for her mind.

Yoga is a practice that will test the practitioner both physically and mentally. True to Miley's testament, most practitioners believe that the real surrender in yoga is a mental, rather than physical, obstacle.

Most recently, she was not able to attend yoga for ten days straight. She was busy celebrating the holidays with her fiancé Liam Hemsworth and their families.

When commenting on returning to her practice the 24-year-old singer wrote on Instagram: "I will NEVER not practice for 10 days EVER again! Today I got my ASStanga kicked!"

However, despite the 10-day absence, Miley was still able to execute her floating lotus pose gracefully. The floating lotus pose is an intermediate to advanced yoga pose.
