Researchers from the University of California have confirmed that combining antioxidant resveratrol and benzoyl peroxide produces excellent results in treating acne. The new research published in the Dermatology and Therapy journal showed how the mixture of resveratrol and benzoyl peroxide was put on bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes (P. Acnes) that causes acne vulgaris, which was drawn from a human volunteer.

As a result, resveratrol exhibited protracted antibacterial activity against P. acnes while benzoyl peroxide demonstrated a short-term bactericidal response. The mixture of resveratrol and benzoyl peroxide is proven effective to Acne Vulgaris.

The mixture of benzoyl peroxide and resveratrol explained high initial antibacterial activity and growth inhibition. The P. acnes with resveratrol unveiled modified bacterial morphology and less cytotoxic effects than benzoyl peroxide.

The results confirmed that there was a loss of bacterial membrane and extracellular fimbrial structures on the electron microscopy of P. acnes. The reduced cytotoxicity demonstrated by the combination of benzoyl peroxide and resveratrol highlighted the potential treatment of acne vulgaris.

Researchers examined the two compounds and found exceptional results. Doctors disclosed that the suggested treatment response for the treatment is within ten days. It was finally confirmed that benzoyl peroxide is more toxic than resveratrol. The combination of two substances reduces the prolonging antibacterial effects on acne.

Resveratrol is a stilbenoid which has natural phenol and phytoalexin which naturally protects a cells' DNA. Nature World News revealed that resveratrol is an antioxidant found in red grapes and effectively neutralize free radicals from forming. Free radicals are unbalanced atoms that may lead to serious diseases such as degeneration and cancer.

Benzoyl Peroxide is a traditional medication for acne treatment. It is a keratolytic agent with antibacterial effects, peeling and drying functions which help stop bacteria from growing and causing cystic lesions and acne.

Acne Vulgaris is a common chronic skin disease involving clogging and inflammation of hair follicles and sebaceous gland.
