WWE 2017 Latest News & Updates: Heel-Turn May Be Dolph Ziggler's Last Chance At Reviving Career
Dolph Ziggler has fallen short yet again but it may as well be the last time WWE fans see him as a face wrestler. Based on the first WWE SmackDown for 2017, the “Showoff” has had enough of being “Mr. Nice Guy”.
Ziggler faced Baron Corbin on the Jan. 3 edition of WWE SmackDown but lost out yet again. Kalisto, someone who has had differences with the “Lone Wolf”, came out to try and help out Ziggler. What happened afterward came as a shock though it signals the heel-turn. Ziggler gave Kalisto a ‘super-kick’ and belched out that he didn’t need anyone’s help. In the locker room, Apollo Crews tried to stand up for Kalisto and eventually got into it with the “Showoff”.
Moving forward, it is clear that Ziggler has once again been taken out of the main event cards. The “Showoff” has simply failed to get over the hump so he may be headed into a different direction. He will likely feud with either Kalisto or even Crews, working the middle cards on the Blue brand, Cageside Seats reported.
For Ziggler, the character change could be best for where he is right now. The creative team has simply found no place for him in the big matches, inserting him often with no meaning. With the limelight now on John Cena and AJ Styles, time in the middle cards could work best for the “Showoff”. Corbin is still lurking in the main event picture so it will be interesting how he factors in after the Royal Rumble.
As for Ziggler, he takes part in the initiative to rebuild the middle card department of WWE SmackDown. It is a section that needs some attention and he could pick up the pieces before making a return to the main event. Right now, being in the mid-cards is seen as best for Ziggler rather than hopelessly being involved in title-matches where victory is hard to come by. On how long he will stay there depends on the WWE creative team.
