NFL Latest News & Update: Colin Kaepernick Awaits New Management Before Making Decision

The San Francisco 49ers have yet to name their next general manager and coach following the dismissal of Trent Baalke and Chip Kelly respectively. The search is on for team owner Jed York with names like Kyle Shanahan, Josh McDaniels, and Nick Caserio. No one has gotten the inside track so far thought he 49ers have all the time to spare.

While all that should take shape in the coming months, there is the case of controversial quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Before the firings, many believed that the 31-year-old quarterback would be among the interesting NFL free agents this Summer. But with heads rolling, there is a chance that Kaepernick may just stay on with a lot falling into the hands of the new general manager and head coach.

One of the key elements that York and the new heads will be looking for is a franchise player. That could fall on the should of Colin Kaepernick assuming he gets his act together and gets the opportunity on the field, ESPN reported. The 2016-17 NFL season saw him spending more time on the bench and doing that celebrated knee protest each time the national anthem was played.

Kaepernick did get his fair chance of exposure but such hardly made a different for the season of the 49ers. Colin Kaepernick is widely believed to opt out after this season though the 49ers (if interested) can easily dangle him a fresh lease. It may be a restructured contract assuming York and company are still interested in his services.

Hence, York will be in for a busy couple of months to try and turn things around for the sputtering 49ers. That includes rebuilding the winning culture in San Francisco, something that has long been missing. Baalke and Kelly failed to rise to the occasion and now the tedious task of doing so will fall on the new heads at the helm, USA Today reported.
