'Super Mario Run' Latest News & Update: Hackers Use Game App to Spread Malicious Trojan Online
A lot of gamers are eager to wait for “Super Mario Run” to come out on Android and the best way to describe it right now is that it is a “work in progress”. That said, there is no official app released by Nintendo, meaning any app that comes up at the Google Play Store is nothing more than a hoax or bad news.
Bad news in the sense that everyone knows hackers operate online. It takes one click to unleash havoc and apparently some have turned their attention to “Super Mario Run”. As most know, a lot of gamers want to see the Android version and some have resorted to third-party sites to see if one is close to the iconic plumber’s run.
It turns out that these alleged apps are nothing more than mediums to spread Marcher banking Trojan malware which has been around since 2013, ZDNet reported. With the alarming issue, cybersecurity group Zscaler has come out in the open to warn users of the impending threat tied up to “Super Mario Run”. The Marcher malware tricks innocent users into entering bank details on a fake page which allows hackers to do their dirty work.
The damage the malware can do includes stealing financial account details and credit card numbers. Aside from taking the risk of getting the fake “Super Mario Run”, the main gist of the intrusion happens once owners permit administrative access to their devices. Aside from financial information stored on devices, login details to social media accounts like Facebook, Skype and Gmail can also be stolen.
For most monitoring the cyberthreat issues, the bottom line here is that no “Super Mario Run” for Android is still out in the open. The only official version is for iOS users with Nintendo still working on the Android counterpart. There is no timetable though that should happen soon with the Google Play Store already taking in pre-registration to alert gamers of its availability as mentioned in a previous post.
