The celebrated battery drain bug plaguing the MacBook Pro 2016 is still up in the air with Apple working with Consumer Reports to iron out the problem. Consumer Reports ran battery life tests and the results returned inconsistent behavior and discrepancy for the units that fell into their laps.

Apple has released an official statement on the MacBook Pro 2016 problem, singling out the manner of testing and tying up the problem to a Safari bug. Consumer Reports apparently undergoes a common test using locally stored websites on the default browser. Displays are set to 100 nits brightness which stays up until the batteries run dry through the cycle, GSM Arena reported. It should be noted that Consumer Reports disables certain features such as caching of data.

Apple singles out that the tweaks made to Safari are the cause of the erratic behavior. Disabling the cache of Safari on the MacBook Pro 2016 allegedly triggered a bug when it comes to reloading icons. The Cupertino company is aware of the problem and will reportedly release a fix soon. Consumer Reports re-enabled the cache and used patched software and such proved Apple’s claims, per an official statement.

The ‘hidden’ Safari setting is apparently something used by web developers and something that common users do not need or actually use. That said, all eyes are on the fix which has no timetable as of this writing. With the celebrated MacBook Pro 2016 battery drain issue explained, it will be interesting if the patch redeems the previous allegations that folks were better off considering other laptops.

Such pushed many to get the Microsoft Surface Studio instead or the speculated Surface Pro 5 expected to be released soon. Despite the battery issue resolved, some are still not readily impressed with the MacBook Pro 2016 due to its specs. This includes the decision to use Intel Skylake chipsets and the 16 GB RAM limit.
