Salmonella Tainted Salmon Recalled from CostCo

Salmonella Tainted Salmon has sickened over 200 people and counting in the Netherlands and now is being recalled in the U.S.

AP news reports that the Netherlands' National Institute for Public Health and the Environment said the salmon was traced to a Dutch company called Foppen, which sells fish to many major supermarkets in the Netherlands and stores around the world.

Health officials say that they believe Foppen imported some of the contaminated product to CostCo wholesale corps in the U.S., though they believe no other country was sold this particular product.

Craig Wilson, vice president of food safety at Costco, said the company immediately pulled the smoked salmon from shelves after receiving a call from Foppen late Monday. CostCo also blocked sale of the salmon in stores, meaning the products won't scan at registers.

With late reports released about the issue , U.S. Health officials say that people who may have been affected could be growing. Since the recall, About 1,400 unhappy costumers called into hospitals reporting salmonella-like symptoms.

No hospitalizations or deaths were reported in either country.

Though investigators from Netherlands cannot yet tell what caused the infection, they have narrowed down the source of production to a single factory in Greece.

Said factory has been shut down until further notice.
