‘Girl Meets World’ Cancellation: The Real Reason Behind Cancellation, Fans Looking For Series’ New Home

Disney Channel announced the cancellation "Girl Meets World" season 4 earlier this month and fans are still reeling from the bad news. Fans continue to call for other networks such as Netflix to continue their beloved show and feel that the series should continue airing despite Disney Channel's decision.

For months, the cast and crew of the "Boy Meets World" spinoff series have been calling fans to save the show, Vulture noted. After the team finished filming the third season, speculations of cancellation started swirling the Internet. As many fans had predicted, "Girl Meets World" season 4 was scrapped by Disney Channel as announced earlier this year. However, many feel that it isn't too late for their beloved series.

Although "Girl Meets World" generated a huge following, Disney Channel still decided to cut the show after three season and 70 episodes, Deadline reported. Riding the nostalgia wave, the series appealed greatly to the 90's kids as evident in the premiere rating. However, it slowly dwindled after three seasons, but this couldn't just be the main reason for canceling the series. "Girl Meets World" has established a core fan base with its wit and comedic lines. Then what could be the real reason behind the cancellation?

"Girl Meets World" has brought Disney Channel Emmy nominations for Best Children's program in its first two runs, including WGA and PGA nominations too. While the series was well-received, Disney Channel acknowledged that the series has drawn an older average audience as with the cases of follow-up series. The network primarily caters to kids aged six to 14 years old. It appears that the series greatly attracted viewers of the original ones, who have aged already.

"Girl Meets World" ranked number five in the 6-11 category of Disney Channel's target demographic and ranked number three in the 9-14 category. Since Disney Channel greatly depends on the ads, not getting enough audience can spell disaster to its series. Now efforts are being made for the series to go on and find a new home. However, two remaining episodes are still set to air this month.
