‘Shameless’ Season 8 Inside Scoop: Showtime Boss Speaks About Emmy Rossum's Salary Negotiations; Details Revealed
"Shameless" season 8 is teeming with controversy after Emmy Rossum demanded equal pay, putting season 8 at risk for cancellation. Finally, Showtime renewed the series for an eighth season after Rossum signed a new contract with series producer Warner Bros TV.
"Shameless" season 8 was on the verge of being cancelled after Emmy Rossum made some noise, asking the producers for salary parity with co-star William H. Macy. After a tense argument over salary, Showtime offered both Rossum and Macy the same salary citing financial parity, Deadline reported. As an Oscar nominee with a great track record, Macy started off with a higher original quote. Rossum, on the other hand, is the series breakout star, who wants to be at par with Macy. For seven years, Rossum held off asking for equal pay and last year, she asked that she should be paid more than the actor.

Showtime president David Nevins said that parity was justified in Rossum's case. Nevins added that the resolution has done well for both parties. He also stressed that Emmy Rossum has been an essential part why the Showtime series became such a huge success. Not only is she a force to reckon in front of the camera but she's also done more than her fair share directing as well. He ended by saying that Rossum will continue to do so in "Shameless" season 8.
Meanwhile, “Shameless” season 8 may continue to see Frank living in bad luck, Mic reported. To recall, the Gallagher patriarch cheated death when he survived his fall at Lake Michigan. After a month in the intensive care unit, he was back being his obnoxious self. After learning that his own children threw him off the bridge, he intended to exact revenge on them. In an unexpected turn of events, he reunited with his ex-wife Monica (Chloe Webb), who later died in the series.
"Shameless" season 8 will start production in May. Stay tuned to Counsel & Heal for more updates on your favorite shows!
