The current MacBook Pro variants have been under a lot of heat, mostly dishing on the battery problem. Aside from that, there are the jabs on the use of an Intel Skylake SoC and the 16 GB RAM limit. With Intel Kaby Lake chipsets formally introduced at CES 2017, a looming new batch of MacBook Pro 2017 models may be in for major changes – addressing the disappointments most have aired with the 2016 model.

Word of such comes from reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who expects a new set of MacBook Pro 2017 variants later this year, Apple Insider reported. The change will reportedly affect the 15-inch variants which should also be good news for power-users and professionals who were disappointed at the specs of the current MacBook models.

A look back at the MacBook Pro 2016 shows many disappointed with the specs. While the use of Intel Skylake chipsets was justified due to issues in the availability of Kaby Lake SoCs, the 16 GB RAM limit angle was something most did not accept. Apple explained that the reason behind it was to maximize battery life – something that eventually got full blown when new MacBook Pro 2016 variants didn’t exactly last long.

Consumer Reports took the lead to expose the real issue. It would, later on, be traced to a bug associated with the Safari browser, explaining the poor longevity of the MacBook Pro 2016. Apple has already released a patch to address the issue but the 16 GB limit is still some are apprehensive with.

Production of the new breed of MacBook Pro 2017 is expected to commence in by the third quarter. New 13- and 15-inch models are expected to be offered. Additionally, Kuo hints at the production of a 12-inch MacBook being mass-produced by the second quarter of 2017. The device will be lighter and lighter and now be given 16 GB of RAM over the previous 8 GB RAM limit that debuted back in 2015.
