HBO President Confirms The Coming Of ‘True Detective’ Season 3; Might Have A New Writer
At the recent Television Critics Association press tour, HBO programming president Casey Bloys talked about the future of "True Detective" Season 3. Although the head didn't reveal its official return, he teased that it would definitely come in the near future.
Bloys hinted that the creators of the anthology crime drama are now "closing in on ideas that they are excited about." In fact, they are now thinking of concepts for "True Detective" Season 3, thus if they already have something that would be the time they are going to take it to him. According to The Independent, the programming chief admitted that he has nothing to give an account yet other than they are still considering what the best next version could be.
Moreover, Bloys confirmed that the show is not yet dead and he and Nic Pizzolatto are still open for the coming of "True Detective" Season 3. However, the 41-year-old screenwriter can't take it right now, Den of Geek reported. Hence, this could mean that the Matthew McConaughey program might anchor a new writer. As a matter of the fact, the boss also disclosed that they are now open for someone else to pen the new chapter and changes, but the novelist will still be supervising it.
In 2016, HBO signed up an overall deal with Pizzolatto that "True Detective" Season 3 will be returning until 2018. He will, then, have a choice if he wants to do a rework of the show's creative structure, get new writing staff, hire a new showrunner or he could do it all alone again. Anyhow, whatever his decision is, he will still stay as the program's executive producer.
Meanwhile, the second season of "True Detective" was not as well-received like the show's first season. As Pizzolatto now has a new show to do with Robert Downey Jr., a Perry Mason reboot, fans still have to wait and see what will be the future of "True Detective" Season 3.
