iPhone 6 Battery Exchange Program Latest News & Updates: Free Replacements Limited to iPhone 6s Models
Apple offered a battery replacement program last year when iPhone 6s owners found their devices shutting down unexpectedly. The Cupertino company claims that the affected market was ‘very small’ though most believe it was more widespread. The problem affected only devices under a certain serial number range, which were manufactured between September and October 2015.
Just recently, a report from Mac Otakara claimed that Apple was extending its battery exchange program to cover the iPhone 6. The report didn’t have a credible backing and was eventually taken down. To date, there is no available service data to prove that the battery problem plaguing the iPhone 6s also affects iPhone 6 users.
That said, there are really no grounds to undertake a battery exchange program for iPhone 6 models. Aside from that, it should be worth noting as well that the iPhone 6 has already been out for three years now. With depreciation in mind, common logic is that due to extensive use of the device would render various effects on the battery life.
Hence, it makes no sense to include a three-year-old device and tie it up to the successor that showed the unexpected shutdowns last year, BGR reported. The only probable way Apple would hold a battery exchange program is if the problem stems from a widespread hardware issue. The closest one was perhaps that celebrated iPhone 6 Plus’ Touch Disease that cropped up back in 2016.
With all that cleared up, only iPhone 6s owners who believe that their units are experiencing the surprise shutdown issue can visit the official Apple website to check. All they have to do is input their phone’s serial number and see if they are eligible to get a free battery replacement. If eligible, affected iPhone 6s owners will be told to call their service provider to confirm if the battery replacement service is available on the date of visit.
