‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Update: Episode Finale Leaked Ahead Of US & UK Premiere; Channel One Russia Employee Unintentionally Breached Security
"Sherlock" season 4 final episode was allegedly leaked online ahead of its UK and US premiere, which resulted to an all-time low, according to Deadline. In response, BBC Worldwide and Channel One Russia investigated the matter right away and found out that the leak came from one of Channel One's employee. The BBC One sleuth drama's finale episode leak was determined to be an isolated and unintentional security.
Channel One released a statement to the online publication, admitting their lapse in security. As a result, the network assured their partners and viewers that they have completely revised their content security procedures so the incident won't happen again. At the same time, the network asked for an apology to all "Sherlock" season 4 fans for the leak. The episode titled "The Final Problem" leaked on the weekend before the episode is due out to air on Sunday.
The Sunday finale allegedly hit a series low in the UK overnight. It remains unknown if the leak has anything to do with it since the leak was not subtitled in English. Under the Russian Law, a provider has three days to delete illegal content, The Hollywood Reporter added. Earlier in the week, Russia's communications watchdog demanded that all pirated versions of "Sherlock" season 4 finale episode be taken down.
A spokesman said that they already have a court order, sending a demand to hosting providers to delete the illegal content. Meanwhile, BBC World accepted Channel One's apology in a statement they released. More so, BBC World also appreciated the quick investigation and concluded that the matter is now closed.
