The first trailer of "The Last of Us 2" at the PlayStation Experience 2016 hinted Ellie's storyline will be the main focus of the game. Along with Ellie, it looks like Joel will be once again on her side to fight the zombie-like apocalypse.

The short teaser of "The Last of Us 2" gives a glimpse of the older and darker Ellie inside a room. On the area's wall, there are a lot of writings that can be seen and these written works may carry important clues about the upcoming game. There are a lot of theories now surfacing about the title's storyline and one of the most popular is Joel's death.

To recall, according to iDigitalTimes, Naughty Dogs creative director Neil Druckmann explained that in the original game was told from Joel's point of view. It was a theme of love and selflessness featuring Joel and Ellie. However, in "The Last of Us 2," the same story, music, interaction and gameplay will be used but to build a concept of hatred from Ellie's perspective. It has been said that the death of Joel will make Ellie mad that she will seek revenge.

Fans believe that the writings have a lot of symbolism, like Joel's appearance through the blinding light the word "Theseus" from the wall as shared by YouTube star, Briana White. She believed that Ellie's character will be like Theseus from the Greek mythology. As she is the cure for the infection, it has been known that she has to sacrifice herself.

Meanwhile, aside from Ellie and Joel's storyline in "The Last of Us 2," the game's developer Neil Druckmann previously said that the initial was created to be a gay character as revealed in the "Left Behind" DLC. According to Attack of the Fanboy, when the tale of Ellie and Riley was revealed, there was something already going on between the two characters.
