UFC 2017 Latest News & Update: Amanda Nunes Eyes Another Title, Hints At Retirement

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes could be facing Valentin Shevchenko or Julianna Pena next if the current rankings are to be a basis. On paper, it seems the “Lioness” hardly has some competition coming and a reason why she may be contemplating on moving up to the newly created featherweight division. Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie meet on Feb. 11 in New York to determine the first champion of that division.

Amanda Nunes is apparently following the footsteps of Conor McGregor, the first UFC male fighter to hoist up titles from two separate divisions. He previously held the UFC featherweight and lightweight title before the former belt was stripped from him on Nov. 26, 2016. For Nunes, this could very well be the route where she could eventually be made to choose which title to focus on.

The Brazilian lass will be one of the interested spectators at UFC 208 and alleges she will be rooting for Holly Holm. The real reason behind it is because Amanda Nunes wants to face Holm should the “Preacher’s Daughter” triumph over de Randamie in New York, TMZ reported. But does this mean she will be surrendering her UFC bantamweight title eventually?

At 28, Nunes can still go on and fight if she wants to. But like most, she does want have other things in mind like raising a family. Looking ahead, she could be up for one more match in the bantamweight division and probably a couple of matches in the featherweight division. Asked on how many fights she would be open to and the “Lioness” replied about 2 to 3 more fights before retiring, Bloody Elbow reported.

If Nunes is limiting her options to that number of fights, moving up and challenging whoever wins at UFC 208 should be known right once the new featherweight champion is crowned. Nunes wants to make history but is aware that all that falls at the hands of UFC management. Who could she possibly face, assuming the UFC grants her wish?
