NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Update: Carmelo Anthony For Kevin Love Proposal Thumbed Down
Carmelo Anthony’s days with the New York Knicks may be numbered following reports that the franchise tried to swap him with Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Knicks tried to jump-start trade talks with the Cavs, a proposal that was turned down by the NBA defending champions.
With the NBA trade deadline fast approaching, the Anthony for Love swap is one of many potential deals expected to plague sports headlines in the coming weeks. But other than that, it also hints that the marriage between the 32-year-old forward and the Knicks is imminently coming to an end. Back in December, Melo and Knick's vice president held talks following the latter’s criticism of Anthony holding the ball too much during offensive sets, USA Today reported.
Carmelo Anthony has since made it known that he wants to remain in New York. He holds a no-trade clause and the ballclub would have discussed the matter with him had the Cavs been amenable to the swap. Love has been getting his share of criticism for inconsistent play, but remains a vital cog in the rotation of head coach Tyronn Lue, NBA.com reported.
The revelation also comes days after resident star LeBron James called on general manager David Griffin to improve the roster. However, James was referring to reinforcing their point guard position and not the forward which the Cavs seem to have plenty of. If the Knicks are decided to part ways with Anthony, the attention could move on to other teams.
The coming weeks will likely see big name forwards involved in potential NBA trades for Anthony. There are a handful of names being mentioned as of late such as Brook Lopez of the Brooklyn Nets, Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor of the Philadelphia 76ers or even Greg Monroe of the Milwaukee Bucks. Unlike Love, however, the Knicks may want something more than a straight one-for-one if the player in the talks would carry a smaller contract or less star power.
