'Logan' Not Connected To 'X-Men' Universe, Possible Sequel To Hugh Jackman, James Mangold Film 'The Wolverine'

The upcoming blockbuster "Logan" may have a couple of popular mutants, but that doesn't mean that the movie will be connected to the "X-Men" film franchise. Hugh Jackman has revealed that the Marvel antihero's final major movie is set in a different universe. But is it possible that "Logan" is a direct sequel to James Mangold's 2013 flick "The Wolverine"?

"The Wolverine" was certainly a very different movie compared to the usual "X-Men" blockbusters although it featured Jean Grey as well as Magneto and Professor X in a post-credits scene. Could "Logan" turn out to be a direct sequel to Hugh Jackman and James Mangold's first collaboration? A scene from the 2013 film seems to refer to Logan's future in his final movie.

The scene from "The Wolverine" that references Logan's future involves a conversation with Yukio, a young assassin who is employed by the Yashida clan. Yukio tells Logan she knows who he is, calling him a soldier looking for an honorable death and an end to all the pain. Since the mutant can see the future, it certainly sounds like she is predicting what will happen in "Logan". Although there is no clip of the mutant's prediction, check out Yukio in action in the video below.

So does this mean Hugh Jackman's character will find an honorable death in "Logan"? There are speculations that Wolverine's final movie could mean the character will die in the James Mangold film. It would certainly be a fitting conclusion to Logan's story in the "X-Men" Cinematic Universe.

It is important to point out that the connection between "The Wolverine" and "Logan" are all speculations and should be taken with a grain of salt. Hugh Jackman will reprise his role for the last time in the James Mangold movie, which will finally hit theaters on March 3.
