'Murder on the Orient Express' Remake: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Willem Dafoe Join All-Star Cast Lead By Johnny Depp
20th Century Fox along with Scott Free Productions and Genre Films will produce the movie adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic 1934 novel "Murder on the Orient Express." The film is already set to have high profile stars and the latest addition to it is Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will be playing the role of Marquez in the upcoming movie "Murder on the Orient Express." The 35-year-old star will be joining the A-list stars like Johnny Depp, who will play the lead role Ratchett, along with Michelle Pfeiffer as Mrs. Hubbard and Daisy Ridley as Mary Debenham. Also, Penelope Cruz will be in the film, although her role is not yet announced, according to Deadline.
"Murder on the Orient Express" is about the murder that happened on the famous train. The Belgian detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) will be investigating the case and will try to solve it in spite of having a lot of suspects among the passengers on board. In a report from Variety, 20th Century Fox has been eyeing to develop the said movie as a remake of the original 1974 film adaptation by Sidney Lumet.
The classic "Murder on the Orient Express" movie starred Albert Finney as the detective who's investigating the murder of the American tycoon on the train. That time, the film also had an all-star cast like Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Colin Blakely, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave, and Michael York. It was even a profitable success, earning $35 million in the U.S. alone and got nominated for six Academy Awards.
Meanwhile, the 2017 adaptation of "Murder on the Orient Express" will also see Willem Dafoe as the undercover detective Gerhard Hardman. Other stars of the film are Josh Gad and Leslie Odom Jr. James Prichard and Hilary Strong from Agatha Christie Limited will be the executive producers. The movie is set to be released on Nov. 22.
