NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Update: Brook Lopez, Bojan Bogdanovic Still Up For Grabs
The Brooklyn Nets are unlikely to make the NBA playoffs and the word out right now is that the team may deal away their high-salaried stars. Brook Lopez and possibly Bojan Bogdanovic are candidates, a move that will help the Nets clean up their salary budget and embark on a new rebuilding process for next season.
While an NBA trade involving Brook Lopez and/or Bojan Bogdanovic could happen before Feb. 23, the Nets are expected to want something significant in return. It may be a player or draft picks, something that Brooklyn needs. The Nets don’t have a credible pick in the coming 2017 NBA Draft and it looks like this is the best way to get back in the draft selection order, ESPN reported.
There are several teams who could use someone like Lopez. The Cleveland Cavaliers have long been looking for a big guy to man the paint. Right now, however, the priority of general manager David Griffin is a point guard who can spell Kyrie Irving. It is possible that once that area is addressed, the Cavs could consider Lopez though his salary may stand in the way.
Aside from that, there is the health factor for Lopez. Though he has been putting up good numbers for the 2016-17 NBA season, he is plagued by setbacks that involve his feet. That plus his salary which is over $20 million may lead a team to think twice before talking with Nets general manager Sean Marks.
The NBA trade deadline will be on Feb. 23 and anything can happen. If the Nets are unable to deal Lopez or Bogdanovic, they could continue that in the offseason when most NBA teams will start fresh, The Brooklyn Game reported. Compared to the upcoming NBA trade deadline, the offseason could offer better chances of striking a deal and hopefully in time before the 2017 NBA Free Agency gets underway.
