In this week's winter finale of "Gotham" season 3, viewers see a couple of characters being put to the test. First of all, there's Bruce, who finally gets face to face with a blood-thirsty Jerome. When Jerome finally gets his hands on Bruce, however, Bruce outsmarts him and tries to pin him down.

Jerome provokes him further to kill him and turn evil, but Bruce lets him walk. On the other side of the city, we see two best friends' quarrel turn into a deadly fight as Penguin and Nygma's love-hate relationship is not over. According to Entertainment Weekly, the shocking winter finale of "Gotham" season 3 found Penguin and Nygma in a heated quarrel after Penguin killed Nygma's love of his life.

Penguin tried his best to show his alliance (and ultimately, loyalty and love) to Nygma, who in turn became so vengeful following the death of Isabella. Naturally, Nygma was out to get Isabella's killer A.K.A. Penguin. However, their love-hate relationship is not over in "Gotham" season 3, as he ultimately decided to shoot Penguin notably in the stomach before he fell into the river.

The big question now is, will Penguin survive the shot and the fall? "Gotham" season 3 will be away for a while, giving fans and viewers enough time to think about the possibilities. TV Guide reported that the conflict between Penguin and Nygma doesn't end despite the shocking winter finale. Penguin and Nygma's love-hate relationship will carry out throughout the rest of "Gotham" season 3, executive producer John Stephens explained.

In fact, Stephens believes that if the show goes on for more seasons, there will be a lot of room for the Penguin and Nygma love-hate relationship to further play out.
