Whispers and speculations about "Wayward Pines" Season 3 cancellation are making its rounds on the Internet after the the Fox show's season 2 did poorly in ratings. Now, a report revealed that there is still a chance for "Wayward Pines" season 3 to happen since the mystery, science fiction television series is not officially cancelled yet.

Despite the big drop of ratings, Fox entertainment president David Madden revealed that there is still a possibility for a "Wayward Pines" season 3. Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour last month, Madden noted that although there is a high chance for the Fox show to be back, it will not be seen on the small screens this year, as reported by Flickering Myth.

"Wayward didn’t come together quickly enough for us to have it this summer; there have been discussions about casting," the Fox entertainment president said. While the "Wayward Pines" season 3 release date is still uncertain, the possibility of its existence is enough for the fans to keep their hopes up.

Meanwhile, a previous report of TV Line gave "Wayward Pines" fans a mini heart attack after featuring the Fox show to their "Cancelled or Not?" list. According to the site, the status of "Wayward Pines" season 3 is still stuck in a bubble as Fox executives are still thinking things over if a third installment is worth a try.

For now, fans are left with no choice but to hold on to the Fox entertainment president's words and to remain hopeful that "Wayward Pines" season 3 will still happen. But with the network focusing on other popular and upcoming series, it is safe to say that fans will not be seeing "Wayward Pines" season 3 on the small screens anytime soon.
