NBA Trade 2017 Latest News & Update: Houston Rockets Looking For More Firepower, Eye Serge Ibaka

The Houston Rockets continue to fly high with first-year head coach Mike D’Antoni proving to be a good fit. He has implemented a high-octane offense that seems to hit it off well with James Harden and company. So with a humming team that is lording it atop the NBA Western Conference standings, would there be changes still needed?

Serge Ibaka, best known as part of the Oklahoma City Thunder before being traded last offseason, has joined the growing list of NBA players possibly on the move. Following weeks of Carmelo Anthony and Jahlil Okafor trade barbs, the current Orlando Magic power forward has suddenly emerged as an intriguing prospect.

The Congolese-Spanish player owns a deadly outside shooting game as well as someone known for his defense. That said, it wouldn’t be surprising to find some teams seriously considering the 27-year-old NBA veteran. One of the teams reportedly interested is the Rockets, according to ESPN. Considering the success that Houston has had, adding Ibaka could be both good and bad.

Good in the sense that he adds more depth to an already potent lineup and bad since it may ruin the team’s chemistry. James Harden mentioned that the current roster seems to be good, likely the same sentiment shared by D’Antoni. General manager Daryl Morey pretty much says the same, though he has been notorious for making last-minute surprise moves, Yardbarker reported.

With a gaping hole left by the injured Clint Capella, a possible coming of Serge Ibaka to Houston can still materialize. The NBA trade deadline is on Feb. 23 so the coming days could see talks between the two camps. If not the Rockets, Ibaka is expected to draw interest from other teams as well – particularly the ones preparing for the NBA playoffs. For a player who can be effective on both ends of the court, expect something to go down soon.
