'Ant-Man and the Wasp' News & Update: Michael Douglas Will Reprise Hank Pym Role in Sequel; Production Begins in July

There's still a long way to go before the highly anticipated "Ant-Man and the Wasp" hits theaters next year. In fact, production begins in July, bringing back comedian Paul Rudd in the titular role, as well as Michael Douglas, who will reprise Hank Pym role in sequel. The news just broke that the award-winning actor will be returning to reprise his role as the scientist and original Ant-Man who created the supersuit.

According to Collider, Douglas took to Facebook to share the news that he will reprise Hank Pym role in sequel "Ant-Man and the Wasp," which hits theaters next year. The actor posted a photo of himself standing beside the "Ant-Man" movie poster, and included a caption mentioning that he has to "start growing the goatee now." Douglas added that production begins in July, bringing back Paul Rudd, Michael Pena, and Evangeline Lilly to create the highly anticipated sequel to the hit 2015 film.

This may come as no surprise to fans of the "Ant-Man" franchise, as the 2015 flick left many questions to be answered, as well as Scott Lang's stint in last year's "Captain America: Civil War." One of the many questions that the movie left unanswered was if Hank Pym's wife is still alive following her accident, and if they could ever find her again. Now that Michael Douglas will reprise Hank Pym role in sequel, will "Ant-Men and the Wasp" address his wife's disappearance?

The latest is that IGN reported Douglas, Rudd, and Lilly aren't the only ones returning to film "Ant-Man and the Wasp," as Peyton Reed is also returning to helm the film. The film will supposedly pick up after the events of both "Ant-Man" and "Captain America: Civil War," after which Scott Lang is a fugitive. Of course, the film will also tackle Hope van Dyne's journey to become the Wasp, who will be Ant-Man's partner in fighting off evil.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp" is set to debut in theaters on July 8, 2018.
