UFC 2017 Latest News & Update: Brock Lesnar Calls It A Career, Focuses On WWE
Brock Lesnar has retired for the second time from the UFC. The former UFC champion’s retirement was made known by a UFC official which also removes his name from the USADA drug-testing pool. Lesnar first retired in 2011 when he struggled with a digestive condition called diverticulitis.
This means that Brock Lesnar’s return at UFC 200 could be his last. The “Beast Incarnate” faced Mark Hunt after five years though the return was tainted the use of estrogen blocker clomiphene, USA Today reported. Lesnar’s win was changed to a no-contest and the former champion was meted a one-year suspension. With the move, the 39-year-old is expected to focus on the WWE.
Brock Lesnar is scheduled to face Bill Goldberg at Wrestlemania 33 where he is expected to finally win over the 49-year-old actor/wrestler. Other than that, it will be interesting if he would be appearing more frequently with the UFC out of the way. Before word came out that he will be retiring, Lesnar was peculiarly booked for more-than-usual WWE shows, Forbes reported. Could it be because he has freed his schedule with the UFC retirement?
Despite announcing his retirement for the second time, it doesn’t necessarily mean that another comeback is discounted. Brock Lesnar could get the urge once more for as long as his body and age permit him to do so. Dana White is likely to keep the doors open so this may not necessarily be the last we have seen of the “Beast Incarnate” in the Octagon.
Looking ahead, Lesnar needs to settle a score with Goldberg. The former WWE champion was humiliated twice by the WWE/WCW legend. One happened at WWE Survivor Series and the other was at the WWE Royal Rumble. Being up 3-0 (including his win at Wrestlemania 20) it made no sense to book a third match for Wrestlemania 33. As it is shaping up, this may be nothing more than pride.
