NFL 2017 Latest News & Update: Tony Romo Awaits Release, Denver and Houston Expected To Make Move
Tony Romo is aware that he cannot be traded meaning he can only play on as a starter with another team. There are several teams who could use a veteran quarterback like him, namely the Denver Broncos and the Houston Texans. But as mentioned in multiple reports, the only way he can land there is via NFL free agency, albeit, new contract.
Tony Romo currently has a contract that lasts until 2019, a hefty one that gets higher with each passing year as summarized on Spotrac. At 37 plus his knack for injuries, no team is expected to spend that much on Romo whose years are numbered. Hence, the only compromise seen right now is a retooled or new contract which can only be done through free agency.
A trade is a no-no, meaning Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry jones will be forced to make a decision soon. The best that Tony Romo can hope for is a two to three-year pact with the salary numbers crunched. The Broncos previously mentioned that this may be the only way they would be interested in the 37-year-old veteran and such is likely to suffice.

Sitting out most of the 2016-17 NFL season, Romo could be a prime addition to any team. If the Texans or the Broncos manage to maneuver him their way, the one ending up with Romo could instantly be catapulted as AFC favorites next season alongside the New England Patriots according to @Undisputed via 247 Sports (check the video below).
The Dallas Cowboys hardly have any reason to hold on toveteran, butthe rise of Dak Prescott. Jones may be fond of the veteran but the fact is his contract is way too much for a backup. With his years winding down, Romo wants to end his career, playing more than in waiting. Nothing is official for now, though it doesn’t take a genius to figure that Tony Romo wants to be on the field and not on the bench.
