The world's fattest woman, Eman Ahmed, who weighs 495 kg (1092lbs), was flown from her home in Egypt to India on a specially modified cargo plane to undergo a series of weight loss surgeries. She was lifted out of her bed by a crane and the walls of her room had to be knocked down to be able to get her out.

She was carried in a mini-truck to Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport and was transported to Saifee Hospital in Mumbai, India on Saturday. After being put on a liquid diet, doctors said she lost 66lbs in her first five days at the hospital. That's more than 13lbs a day.

The doctors aim to reduce her weight by over 200 kg (434lbs). Dr Muffazal Lakdawa said they have to get her in shape for the surgery. Dr Lakdawa said the operating table can take the weight but the elevator width is only 141cm and Eman is currently 151cm wide according to The Mirror.

According to The Sun, Eman was born with elephantiasis, a parasitic infection which causes extreme swelling in her limbs and arms. She was unable to walk by the age of 11 and had to crawl to get around. She had suffered a cerebral stroke as a child that left her bed-ridden that caused her to gain weight.

Her family posted a plea online to Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi asking for medical assistance. Dr Lakdawal heard about her case and agreed to help her free of charge.

She has been put on a 1,200-calorie per day high protein and fiber diet. She is fed every two hours and is undergoing two sessions of physiotherapy daily. She is now able to lift her limbs higher and sleep better.

Currently she is undergoing tests, and is hopeful to have surgery in a few weeks.
