'Logan' Sequel Could Star Dafne Keen As X-23, Caliban As Mentor Following Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman 'X-Men' Retirement

The highly anticipated "Logan" is finally set to premiere this week, but some fans are already looking forward to what could happen next for X-23. There have been speculations that Dafne Keen will continue playing young Laura in future "X-Men" movies but people are also wondering who would mentor the new Wolverine.

After all, it has been confirmed that Hugh Jackman will not return as the adamantium-clawed mutant in the "Logan" sequel. In addition to that, Patrick Stewart has admitted that he will retire from being Professor X. Patrick Stewart has played Charles Xavier for several years in numerous "X-Men" films, so some fans found it hard to accept that the veteran actor is planning to retire from the role (via Comic Book Movie).

Unfortunately, this could mean that Professor X will meet his end in "Logan". So does this mean that X-23 will end up all alone in the expected "Logan" sequel since Hugh Jackman will not return as Wolverine? There are speculations that Caliban might serve as Laura's protector in any future movies.

Caliban has been confirmed as one of the last remaining mutants that will appear in "Logan". The character will be played by Stephen Merchant, and is believed to be the reason why Laura ends up in Wolverine and Professor X's care in the first place. So will Caliban and X-23 be the only survivors in the "X-Men" movie? It is possible that all mutants will survive in the film, but Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart will no longer appear in the expected sequel starring Dafne Keen.

James Mangold has previously expressed interest in working on a "Logan" sequel with Dafne Keen (via We Got This Covered). The director admitted he enjoyed working with the young X-23 so much that he is eager to take part in another film featuring little Laura. Unfortunately, the next "X-Men" film will not have Hugh Jackman's Wolverine or Patrick Stewart's Professor X. "Logan" premieres on March 3.
