Nokia is trying to get back into the mobile phone market game and initially, that was up to the Nokia 6. With the aggressive approach, the Finnish brand is not bent on relying on one model alone. In fact, it has sought the help of an old familiar model – the Nokia 3310.

The Nokia 3310 is no stranger to most. It is that handy mobile phone that brings back fond memories. Among the features, it was best known for was its robust functionality and battery life longevity. There is also the famed Snake game which is set to return as well. Given those basic features from the Nokia 3310 of old, how does it size up with the advanced smartphones in the market?

Through the efforts of HMD, a retro Nokia 3310 was introduced at the Mobile World Congress 2017. It causes quite a stir with most eager to get one for everyday use while others simply wanted it for their collection. Getting hold of one gets even more tempting because the Nokia 3310 it is said to be “really cheap”, Gizmodo reported.

Aside from the aesthetics and the reasonable price, what makes the Nokia 3310 so cool? Like the original one, all the Nokia 3310 has to offer include making calls, text messages, snapping photos and videos, listening to music and other basic stuff. There is an improvement since it now allows users to do web browsing. Summing it all up, it is a basic phone without frills. So is the Nokia 3310 a threat to the advanced smartphones in the market?

To some extent, the Nokia 3310 is best served for mid-range to startup buyers who simply want a phone with the basic functionalities, Tech Radar reported. And perhaps that is what HMD has in mind. It may be tough to climb up the top of the leading brands so why not target the startup and midrange segments instead? It may not make sense to the consumer but makes logically offers a different kind of business sense.
