Microsoft will be terminating its paid Wi-Fi service by the end of this month. Users are encouraged to utilize their remaining credits before the month ends.

The Reason Behind Microsoft Discontinuing Skype Wi-Fi 

Formerly known as Skype Wi-Fi and later known as Microsoft Wi-Fi, the service allowed users to look for hotspots around the world and pay for their connection with Skype Credit. Back in 2009, Skype was still an independent company but was eventually purchased by Microsoft. A paid Wi-Fi service was reconstructed and rebranded several times. Finally, it was unified into Windows 10 itself, according to Neowin.

As it was announced on the Skype website, the service will no longer continue after Mar. 31, 2017. The team noted that it wants to focus on core functionality. Users were reminded to use their remaining credits or they should contact Microsoft support for more assistance.

In a statement, Microsoft also said that users will not be able to download the Skype Wi-Fi application anymore and if it is still in their device after the said date, the Skype Wi-Fi application will be no longer be able to find and use hotspots. People can still use Skype Credit in order to use Skype's other features, such as landlines and calling mobiles in different areas but with higher rates.

Skype: A New App Has Was Launched

A recall has been made, as last week, Microsoft launched Skype Lite. It is exclusively a made-for-India app. It will provide a smooth involvement in messaging, video, and audio calling even at low-frequency range.

Skype Lite is a 13 MB file. This new app is only available for Android devices. This application supports Indian languages such as Bengali, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi per NDTV Gadgets.
