Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Postpartum Depression [VIDEO]
Model and talk show host Chrissy Teigen gave birth to her first child with the famous singer, John Legend. A few months after giving birth to her daughter Luna, Teigen opened up about her struggles with a postpartum disorder, which led to depression and anxiety.
In a data released by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, it was mentioned that postpartum depression affects one in every seven women in the United States. Each postpartum case varies, but mothers would possess the same symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and irritability. Women are not usually aware that they are suffering from postpartum which resulted in delaying in terms of seeking medical attention.
The postpartum disorder affects women in all walks of life; thus, there are no exceptions. There are several cases where new mothers who were not properly diagnosed with postpartum depression killed their own child as they do not find the appeal or they loathed them at some point. There are also several celebrities who were struck with postpartum, including celebrities such as Adele, Panettiere and Chrissy Teigen.
"I didn't have anything remotely close to those feelings. I looked at Luna every day, amazed by her. So I didn't think I had it," Teigen wrote for her essay published in Glamour Magazine. "I couldn't figure out why I was so unhappy. I blamed it on being tired and possibly growing out of the role."
Baby Center explains the common symptoms of postpartum depression where the mother would constantly feel down and low without a specific reason. It was then mentioned that it can be difficult to tell the difference between postpartum depression and clinical depression at the same time as it also involved lack of interest in one's usual activities, extreme sadness, and emptiness. The only difference between the mental health conditions, however, is the time between the depression took place and childbirth.
