Aidan Turner Nominated In The Category Of Leading Actor
The Irish actor got the nomination in the category of "Actor in a Leading Role in Drama." He has been nominated for his portrayal of Ross Poldark in Season 2. Aidan Turner is competing with other established names in the industry like Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, James Nesbitt, Cillian Murphy, and Dara Devaney, CarterMatt reported.
This is a much-awaited prestigious ceremony for the Irish film and television industry. It acknowledges and awards the achievements and great works done in the industry annually. This year, the ceremony is being hosted at the Mansion House's Round Room on Saturday, Apr. 8, 2017.
Around 500 distinguished guests from all over the world of film and drama are expected to be present this time. The intent is to come together and celebrate the continuation of good work in the home industry of Ireland.
It will be also be an occasion where Sir Michael Gambon ("Harry Potter," "Sleepy Hollow") will receive the Lifetime Achieve Award. The members of the Irish Academy shortlist the nominations every year, with the support of a special panel of jury members. The panel constitutes of industry veterans from across the world.
Aidan Turner Could Be Cast As The New James Bond
Meanwhile, Aidan Turner has been a favorite of the bookies for quite some time, as far as the possibility of him being cast as the next James Bond is concerned. But his job will not be easy, as other names like Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy are also possible contenders, The Sun wrote.
The 33-year-old actor started his career onstage but immediately found fame and recognition after he was featured in "The Hobbit" trilogy on the big screen. He did not look back after getting enormous fan following and great reviews for his portrayal of Ross, the lead protagonist in the hit "Poldark" series. Though Turner took a lead in the James Bond odds way back in Aug. last year, he was tight-lipped when asked to remark about the reports recently.
